"What's it all about?"Have you ever raised your head to the sky and in frustration yelled that question to the heavens? "What's it all about?" I've hollered it a few times. And I've pondered a few more questions: What in the world is happening to me? Why am I here? Who am I and what is my purpose on this spinning globe?
Jesus is the right person to ask, "What’s it all about?" because he has been there. I mean Jesus has been on earth and in heaven; he has been dead and alive, in history and in the present moment, in glory and in agony. If anyone can answer your questions Jesus can, not TV, not the newspapers, not the radio, or academia, or an important job, or having a mansion and a yacht. These questions are not about having the right information or data, but these questions are deeper and come from our heart and our pain and from our soul. The Jesus who appeared on Easter morning can overcome any adversity, even evil itself.
If you are asking questions I want to encourage you. First of all, God is working inside you and prompting you to ask these questions. If only God can answer the question it stands to reason that only God (moving in you) can ask them. Secondly, asking Jesus for an answer is not like asking "Jeeves" on your computer. Tough, painful, deep questions about life require a deep, healing answer. God is not a quick-fix magician but a loving Spirit who holds you and helps you work through the difficulties of life. The first thing God will say to you is together we can handle whatever problem you are facing. The second thing God will do is put you in contact with other Christians who can listen, pray, and help you. That is something we do well here at Trinity Episcopal Church. Here it's not about who's right and who's wrong, or doctrine, or denominations---Trinity is about being together, growing and discovering together, "What is life all about?"
